The U.S. Postal Service is considering delivering alcoholic beverages as a way to raise revenue, according to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe. He told the Associated Press alcohol deliveries could raise as much as $50 million annually.

The Postal Service could use special boxes that would hold two, four or six bottles, and ship for a flat rate anywhere in the United States, he said. “There’s a lot of money to be made in shipping beer, wine and spirits,” he said. “We’d like to be in that business.”

Currently, mailing alcoholic beverages is restricted by law. If customers use alcoholic beverage boxes for shipments, they must cover any logos or labels.
