BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - There's going to be a party going on Tuesday night. Lots of them, actually.

It's National Night Out, an annual nationwide event that gives people the chance to meet and greet their neighbors, get to know their law enforcement officials and let criminals know that crime won't be tolerated.

Many law enforcement agencies throughout Jefferson and Shelby counties will be taking part. It's sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit group that focuses on the prevention of crime and drug use.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will hold its events at two locations. The first is McAdory High School on the football field from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The address is 4800 McAdory School Road. The second location is in the parking lot of the Center Point Satellite Courthouse, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., at 2651 Center Point Parkway.

Sheriff's officials will display equipment and share information about law enforcement operations. There will also be food and music. Sheriff Mike Hale will make an appearance at both locations.

In Birmingham, National Night Out events will be held at more than 20 locations. Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. said it's a great way for neighbors to share food as they discuss issues about their communities and get to know the officers who work in those communities.
