Recovery Stories

Before turning 17 as a full-blown cocaine addict, I had experienced an abusive father, seen my family endure so much pain, struggled educationally, and became increasingly depressed. I was so sad and just wanted to be happy. My addiction eventually led to trouble with the authorities. I needed to have something to fill the emptiness. I knew I was missing something but I never knew what to look for. My mom always told me that if I would ask Jesus to help me He would. I thought she was crazy. I went to church when I was young. I thought I already knew Him. Well…, I didn’t! I made the decision to come to Alabama Teen Challenge after awakening from a failed suicide attempt. I had enough and nowhere else to turn. I never knew how much I was loved, until I accepted Christ to be the Leader of my life. I finally knew who Jesus was. All the depression is gone. I am so in love with a man named Jesus Christ! He SAVED me! I have a joy for life I never knew was possible. I have a great relationship with my family. I love myself. I wouldn’t change a thing about my life. The verse I stand on is Psalm 118:21, “I will praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my salvation.”
