Allow me to share a portion of my "impact letter" to my son: My days and nights are consumed with a suffocating sadness-for you see, I am mourning the loss of you.  I'm overwhelmed with the weight of it.  I'm ashamed to admit this to you, but once when I was at my lowest point-I prayed for your death.  A mother prayed for the death of her only son because she could not bear to see him suffer so in his earthly life knowing that in death he would step into eternity and finally be at peace....

This is a very small version of my testimony.  I began smoking pot when I was sixteen, looking to “experience the world,” I felt that I needed to try everything possible, so as to expand my knowledge. This was the beginning of a horrible affair; my reality slowly became the pursuit of altering reality. I chased stupidity with recklessness, gradually fostering a serious alcohol dependency, and eventually a pain killer addiction.....

My name is Kenzie. I'm 20 years old and I'm from Gadsden, Al. I grew up in a good home. My parents work in the school system and my younger sister and I were very close. My parents worked hard to make sure we never went without. I was always a straight A student. I took ballet and I was really good. From the outside looking in I "had it all." I had lots of friends at school but they all played sports and I took dance so I was left out of a lot of things....

My name is April. I recently spoke with Miss. Linda Hendrix, about speaking at a meeting. I would love to tell my story, to any and everyone, that's interested to hear it. I'm a recovering addict. My drug of choice was heroine. I have several triggers, that I used as a crutch. The biggest one,was losing a loved one. I started off small, with the addiction of Loratabs. I was taking nearly 15-20 a day. I met a man, who was also an addict.....

“My drugs of choice were pain pills at age 21 and crystal meth at age 28.  I hurt my back, was prescribed pain pills and got addicted and when I couldn’t get them anymore, I found something to take their place. I knew my substance use was a problem after the first time I ran out of the pain pills.  I started feeling bad and only felt better when I got more pills or meth to smoke......

“My drugs of choice were Xanax at age 19 and Lortab at age 28.  I drank, smoked pot and did cocaine from age 12 to around 19 (experimenting.)  At age 19, I had gotten married, had a new job with lots of responsibility and my Daddy got arrested for trafficking cocaine.  I was very overwhelmed and I went to the doctor and was prescribed Xanax.....

“My drug of choice was alcohol and THC at 13 years of age.   I began my addiction because I wanted to be accepted.  Then in 2004 everything in my life crashed – husband cheated – teenagers rebelled and my mother (my only & best friend) I was told was dying.  I was mad at God and wanted to die.  I started drinking and drank for 2 years.......

I did not start drinking extensively until I was about 38 years old. I drank a little bit as a teenager but accountability at home gave me limited access.  I do remember enjoying the way it made me feel and act as a kid.  I did not drink in college or my first few years of marriage.  My wife and I began drinking when I was about 26 year of age.  We drank socially.  In a few years......

Stacey grew up in a small Alabama town and felt secure in her close-knit Christian school…until, at age 10, she came home to find a moving truck in the driveway.  “That’s when everything fell apart,” she recalls. Throughout the remainder of her school years she was ridiculed for her religious beliefs and did poorly in her classes.  Then she met a young man who made her happy......

I’m Brooke, and I’m twenty-four years old.  I grew up in a good Christian home with loving parents.  I never wanted for anything.  My parents taught me what love looked like.  Despite a good environment at home, I started hanging out with older kids in the neighborhood and became very rebellious.  Because I was the youngest, I felt I always had something to prove, and I developed a “dare-me-not-to-and-watch-me-do-it” mentality that I carried into my teenage years......

My addiction to pain medication had gotten worse in 2012 after trying to commit suicide by driving my SUV through a brick house only to have broken both my heels and learning how to walk again.  This evening turned me into an IV user.  I lived this way for 9 months.  I grew up in a Christian family but never truly experienced a personal relationship with God.  On February 14, 2013, two weeks .....

I am 31 years old and am from Millbrook, AL.  I grew up in a middle class Christian household.  I went to church every time the doors were open.  I never got into any trouble growing up, never went to parties or drank.  The summer before my senior year of high school I tore my ACL and required surgery.  I believe that’s when Satan opened that door to my first taste of pain medicine.  After graduating from high school I did the normal thing of working and going to college.  I don’t really remember.....

I am 30 years old and am from a little town called Moody.  I guess you could say I had the usual childhood of a child from a broken home.  Some points were good and some were bad.  I felt rejected and unwanted by my dad.  I was molested when I was very little which made me feel even more unwanted and unloved.  I told my dad and he didn’t do anything about it.  That made me feel even worse.  I really had a twisted view of what love was like.....

I am 30 years old.  I grew up in Douglasville, GA and had a wonderful, Christian family.  I got saved when I was 11 years old on Easter Sunday of 1996, and developed my own relationship with Jesus as a teenager.  When I was 17 I started dating a guy a few years older than me, and starting allowing small areas of compromise in my life.  When I was 18.......

I am 33 years old.  I have been a Christian for most of my life.  I guess you could say I had religion but not a relationship.  My life growing up was not easy, my parents split up when I was very young.  I moved around a lot as a kid so I went to many different schools, met many different types of types and started doing many different types of drugs.  Skipping ahead I met my husband in 2000.  We hit it off really well.......
